Overview

Under the guidance of NFTS’ highly qualified teaching staff, the students will be given an in-depth presentation of ‘Location Management’ to further develop their knowledge and skill sets to follow successful careers as Location Managers.

This course will be delivered by Jane Soans, one of the United Kingdom’s most experienced and respected location managers.  She began her career as a Stage Manager, originally in theatre and later in television. Jane worked at the London Film Commission during its first and formative year, has been a committee member for the Guild of Location Managers since 2006, and is a Board Member of the Production Guild while regular teaching at the NFTS.

Her previous film experience includes ‘Separate Lives’ directed by Julian Fellowes; ‘Closer’ directed by Mike Nichols; ‘Chromophobia’ directed by Martha Fiennes; ‘Me and Orson Welles’ directed by Madonna; ‘Ginger and Rosa’ directed by Sally Potter; and ‘Zero Dark Thirty’ directed by Kathryn Bigelow. Her TV work includes ‘Karaoke’ by Dennis Potter and ‘Neville’s Island’ directed by Terry Johnson.

Course Description

The course is aimed at Location Assistants making the step up to the role of Location Manager and will outline how the locations team collaborates with each department on the production to ensure the success of any shoot.

Entry requirements

Previous production experience is desirable. Applicants from other fields should demonstrate passion for pursuing a career in film or TV as Location Managers.

They would also need to be 18 years old or over and have a good command of the English language, as the course will be delivered in English.

Fee

All 2022 participants will receive a full scholarship.
